Director Cut Several Yoo Ah In Scenes From New Netflix Kdrama “Goodbye Earth”

Netflix K-drama “Goodbye Earth” continued its production presentation today at Mondrian Hotel Seoul Itaewon in Yongsan-gu, despite ongoing controversy surrounding its lead actor Yoo Ah In. Director Kim Jin Min was accompanied at the event by actors Ahn Eun Jin, Jeon Sung Woo and Kim Yoon Hye.

“Goodbye Earth” was originally scheduled to be released last year, but its launch was pushed back due to Yoo Ah In’s drug scandal. In response, the film was edited to remove some scenes with Yoo Ah In. The promotional campaign is also moving forward without Yoo Ah In’s participation.

Director Kim Jin Min said about this: “I never thought the show wouldn’t see the light of day. Putting Yoo Ah In’s situation aside, the film itself is worth streaming. We put our hearts and souls into it, and I truly believe it stands on its own merits. We have nothing to fear. After all, this work belongs to everyone who participated in it: the cast, the crew, and ultimately, the audience. It will be a shame to keep him locked up. »

Director Kim Jin Min also spoke candidly about his decision to remove certain scenes from Yoo Ah In. He said: “We were editing the first sections of the show when news of the controversy surrounding Yoo Ah In broke. At first I was hopeful that it would subside over time, so I continued editing. Unfortunately, the situation did not develop as I hoped. »

He continued: “While editing, I ended up understanding the story better and was about to tell Netflix I wanted to rework it. But Netflix does not allow the director to touch the first sections once the edit is finalized. Luckily, with the situation surrounding Yoo Ah In, I had a legitimate reason to revisit these parts. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it allowed me to minimize potential discomfort for spectators. »

“However, Yoo Ah In’s character Ha Yoon Sang plays an important role in how the story unfolds alongside the other three characters. Unfortunately, the character will not be fully represented in the show due to the editing of some of his scenes. I apologize for this, but I hope this doesn’t disrupt your viewing experience. It was necessary to use scenes that were essential to the story. »

Aside from the lead actor issue, the director and cast agreed that Goodbye Earth is a work worth watching for its message alone. Director Kim Jin Min said: “Each episode has a title that gives a clue to the themes behind the story. Think of it as a tale about a community on the brink of something big. You might even see reflections of your loved ones like friends and relatives in the characters. It’s surprisingly easy to understand and comforting, so give it a chance. You might love it. »

“Goodbye Earth” will arrive on Netflix on April 26.
