The upcoming months of 2024 and 2025 promise to be full of drama, comedy, suspense and much more thanks to the many exciting K-dramas coming to Disney+. It is a streaming platform that allows you to watch existing films and series, as well as access the latest releases.
Recently, just like Netflix and other major streaming platforms, Disney+ has increased its Korean content releases due to several factors, such as increasing viewership and demand for K-dramas worldwide, as well as overall influence.
This year and next year, in 2025, several varied K-dramas are planned for Disney+. From crime comedies like “Seoul Busters,” starring Kim Dong-wook and Park Ji-hwan, to webtoon-based series like “Low Life,” starring Ryu Seung-Ryong and Yang Se-Jong, fans have a lot to look forward to .
1- Unmasked
Starring Kim Hye-soo, Jung Sung-il and Joo Jong-hyuk, “Unmasked” is the first of the new K-dramas coming to Disney+. This series tells the comical adventures of a team of investigative journalists. Trigger, the team leader, and the PD are the two main characters of the group. Together, they seek to uncover the truth behind several mysterious events in their country while saving a television show on the verge of abandonment. The K-drama is scheduled to air in 2024.
2- Seoul Busters
The next K-drama coming to Disney+ is “Seoul Busters”, starring Kim Dong-wook, Park Ji-hwan, Seo Hyun-woo, Park Se-wan and Lee Seung-woo. It is scheduled for release in September 2024 and the plot revolves around Korea’s worst-performing police brigade. Violent Crimes Unit 2 is known for its low arrest rate. When a former teacher returning to South Korea decides to volunteer to join the Violent Crimes Unit 2, he meets a group of diverse but fascinating personalities. He then takes action to transform their team into the best detective squad in the country.
3- Gangnam B-Side
Another crime series coming to Disney+ is “Gangnam B-side”. Starring Jo Woo-jin, Ji Chang-wook, Ha Yoon-kyung, and other actors, it tells the story of a retired detective who returns to duty when his daughter’s friend becomes the latest victim of a case of serial disappearances in the Gangnam district of Seoul. The K-drama is expected to be released sometime in 2024.
4- Light Shop
Upcoming K-dramas coming to Disney+ include “Light Shop,” starring Park Bo-young, Ju Ji-hoon, Kim Seol-hyun and other actors. Scheduled for release in 2024, this K-drama is adapted from the webtoon titled “Shop of the Lamp” by Kang Full. The story takes place in a light shop located at the end of a dark alley. The store often attracts many customers, and the owner particularly warns one regular customer, a young girl who comes to buy light bulbs, to be wary of other visitors. The story reveals the secrets surrounding the light shop and its usual visitors.
5- The Tyrant
Starring Ja Yoon-so, Cha Seung-won, Kim Seon-ho and Kim Kang-woo, the science thriller series “The Tyrant” immerses us in a thrilling story. It chronicles the events unfolding between the Korean and American governments, each seeking to get their hands on a biological weapon, the latest sample of the Tyrant program. The K-drama, consisting of four episodes, is scheduled to air on August 14.
6- Tempest
Coming soon to Disney+, the K-drama “Tempest”, also known as “Polar Star”, starring Gianna Jun and Gang Dong-won, will be broadcast in 2025. The story follows Moon-joon, a diplomat and former ambassador in the United States. When she discovers the political manipulations linked to an assassination case between North and South Korea, she teams up with San-ho, a mercenary. Together, they work to uncover the truth behind this incident.
7- Low Life
“Low Life” or “Country Bumpkin” is one of the upcoming K-dramas on Disney+, scheduled for release in 2025. This series is inspired by the webcomic published in 2014 by Yoon Tae-ho. The story follows a little boy and his uncle, who raised him his whole life. The uncle, always ready to accept any task to earn money, whether legal or not, draws the boy into the world of crime. Together, they embark on an unexpected adventure when they are offered a mission to win a fortune. Although their task is to salvage treasure from a sunken ship, the sudden excitement surrounding the ship complicates their mission. “Low Life” stars Ryu Seung-Ryong and Yang Se-Jong.
8- Nine Puzzles
The latest addition to the list of upcoming K-dramas on Disney+ is “Nine Puzzles,” starring Kim Da-mi and Son Suk-ku. Scheduled for 2025, the show tells the story of Yi-na, a young woman accused of the murder of her uncle. Ten years after his death, she becomes a profiler and works with a detective to discover the true identity of the murderer in the case.
