Netflix’s upcoming series The 8 Show treated fans to a screening and panel talk on the 15th. The event was hosted by film journalist Lee Hwa Jung and attended by actors Ryu Jun Yeol, Chun Woo Hee, Moon Jeong Hee, director Han Jae Rim, writer Kim Jung Hyuk, and cultural critic Jung Deok Hyun.
Writer Kim Jung Hyuk said, “This work is filled with incredibly ambitious yet delicate directing,” and praised Ryu Jun Yeol, saying, “Ryu Jun Yeol was like Buster Keaton in a silent film.”
Critic Jung Deok Hyun said, “The show stands out from other survival stories because it feels so relevant to the world we live in today. The show did a great job of capturing the emotions you experience when you first enter the real world.“
Film journalist Lee Hwa Jung said, “It is no exaggeration to say that all eight of them represent this series. They are characters that symbolize society as a whole, and they make the viewers curious from the beginning to the middle to the end.”
Ryu Jun Yeol, who plays the role of “3rd Floor” in the drama, said, “I focused on empathy as the most important keyword and prepared intensively so that the audience could sympathize with and understand the emotions of ‘3rd Floor.’”
Chun Woo Hee introduced the free-spirited “8th Floor,” who doesn’t know where to turn, as a “colorful and free-spirited but one-dimensional character with clear intentions,” and said, “I tried to express human desires or nature as purely as possible without any bad intentions.”
Then, regarding the setting, director Han Jae Rim said, “The show is a microcosm of society and has stories of class, capital,and workers. You might feel it if you watch all eight episodes that it has a metaphor for the people who create mass media.”
The 8 Show will be released today, May 17th.
