Han Hyo Joo is set to star in a Japanese Netflix series, sharing the screen with popular Japanese actor Shun Oguri. This new series is an adaptation of the French film Les Émotifs anonymes (Romantics Anonymous), which revolves around a genius yet overly shy chocolatier who finds a job at a small chocolate shop, leading to a series of heartwarming events.
Directed by Sho Tsukikawa, known for his film Let Me Eat Your Pancreas, the series is produced by Korea’s Yong Film (Believer 2, The Call, 20th Century Girl). It marks a notable collaboration between Korean and Japanese entertainment industries and will be available exclusively on Netflix.
Han Hyo Joo, known for her recent roles in Moving and Blood Free, returns to romantic comedy alongside Shun Oguri. The series also features prominent actors such as Jin Akanishi and Yuri Nakamura, bringing together a stellar ensemble from Korea and Japan.
In the series, Han Hyo Joo plays Lee Hana, a brilliant chocolatier who hides her identity due to social anxiety, while Shun Oguri portrays Sosuke Fujiwara, the new owner of the chocolate shop with a troubled past.
Han Hyo Joo shared her excitement, saying, “It’s been exciting to work on a Japanese project again after all this time. I’m especially delighted to be acting alongside our Korean team of producers, and the art, editing and music directors in this collaboration between Korea and Japan. While we’ve faced some challenges due to the collaborative nature of this project, I’m truly enjoying working with the director, my co-actors and our staff. I’ve made many unforgettable memories.”
Shun Oguri echoed her sentiments, stating, “When I received the offer, the plot was tightly crafted and the project’s vision was clear. An amazing cast and crew quickly came together, and I was very excited to start. Currently, we’re diligently examining the nuances and differences between the Japanese and Korean languages and do our best to make this work better. I look forward to continuing this enjoyable project with this wonderful team and deliver excitement and thrills to everyone.”
Currently filming in Japan, the series is set to premiere on Netflix in 2025.
