BTOB’s Yook Sungjae, WJSN’s Bona, and Kim Ji Hoon will collaborate on a new historical fantasy drama!
On July 19, it was confirmed that Yook Sungjae, Bona, and Kim Ji Hoon will star in the upcoming series “Gwigoong” (romanized title).
It was previously reported that Yook Sungjae and Bona were considering roles in the drama.
“Gwigoong” is a fantasy historical romantic comedy that delves into the tale of the Eight Feet Tall spirit that bears a grudge against the king, a female shaman who opposes it, and an Imuri. In Korean folklore, an Imuri is an imaginary creature that spends a millennium in water and is able to transform into a dragon upon acquiring Yeouiju (magical jewel).
Yook Sungjae will play Yoon Gap, the son of a concubine who rises to become the royal inspector at Gyujanggak (the royal library in the Joseon Dynasty), only to be possessed by the malevolent spirit Imugi.
Bona takes on the role of Yeo Ri, the only granddaughter of a revered shaman who grew up under immense expectations to follow in her ancestor’s footsteps. Although she has inherited shamanic powers, her destiny takes a twisted turn after becoming entangled with Imugi.
Kim Ji Hoon portrays King Yi Sung, who seeks to reform the Joseon Dynasty for a stronger nation and confronts the Eight Feet Tall spirit. Alongside his loyal subject Yoon Gap and accompanying Yeo Ri, he tries to unravel the secrets surrounding the spirit.
“Gwigoong” is scheduled to premiere in 2025 via SBS. Stay tuned!
