Kim Jae Young shared his experience working alongside Park Shin Hye in the SBS drama The Judge from Hell, which wrapped up its run with a strong viewer reception. On October 5th, he sat down for an interview to reflect on his role and the memorable moments on set.

In the series, Kim plays Han Da On, a passionate detective who is endlessly compassionate toward the weak but unforgiving to those who abuse their power. When asked about his reaction to being cast opposite Park Shin Hye, he said, “I thought, ‘This is great.’ Park Shin Hye has so many successful dramas, and people even call her ‘the queen of SBS.’”

He went on to praise Park’s stamina and professionalism. “She has incredible physical and mental strength. She stays balanced, without ups and downs. Honestly, I struggled more than she did,” he admitted. “I tried to keep up with her. She was the anchor of the drama, and she kept everything stable, which made filming a happy experience. I leaned on her a lot.”

Discussing their on-screen romance, Kim addressed Park’s recent return to acting after getting married and having a child. “I wasn’t too stressed, but I did wonder if she might feel worried,” he shared. Laughing, he added, “I’m curious too—if there were cute, lovey-dovey scenes, would Choi Tae Joon (Park Shin Hye’s husband) mind, or would he just think, ‘It’s work, no big deal’?”

Kim also credited Park for guiding him through the romantic comedy elements. “When we filmed playful, romantic scenes, she gave me a lot of tips, like, ‘This part should be more lighthearted.’ It reminded me again of how good she is at romantic comedies,” he said.

Recalling their kiss scene, Kim confessed, “I was really nervous and stumbled at first. Even Park Shin Hye asked, ‘Why are you so tense?’ It had been a long time since I’d filmed a kiss scene, and I kind of forgot how to do it,” he joked. “For the kiss scenes, we film it multiple times and piece the shots together, but before filming, I was so nervous I couldn’t even eat dinner. In the end, though, I’m happy with how it turned out.”
