Kim Woo Bin recently opened up about his fight with nasopharyngeal cancer. Appearing on the YouTube channel “Zzanbro” on the September 16th episode, alongside his Officer Black Belt co-star Kim Sung Kyun, the star candidly discussed his health struggles.
Host Shin Dong Yeob, acknowledging Kim Woo Bin’s battle with the illness, said, “You never really showed that you were in pain, which made it all the more shocking. Seeing my mom go through chemo and radiation, I saw how much pain they cause you. How did you endure it?”
Kim Woo Bin responded, “I’ve always been a pretty positive person. I always try to find the good in whatever’s happening. But when the doctor suddenly says, ‘In the worst case, you have six months,’ it felt like a scene straight out of a drama. I was so shocked and scared; I wished it was all just a bad dream.” He recalled, “But even then, I never thought, ‘What if I can’t beat this?’ I just thought, ‘Maybe this is my chance.’ It didn’t happen right away, but during treatment, I realized that I hadn’t taken a break in 10 years since my debut, so maybe this was time to reflect and recharge.”
“Going through treatment is tough for everyone. But I got so much support from people, just because they recognized me, and honestly, I really believe in that kind of energy,” the actor went on. “The doctors were even surprised by how fast I was recovering. I could feel it, too. And now I try to remind myself every day to keep that feeling close.”
He also shared, “I want to pass on those prayers I got to others. Every night before I go to bed, I pray that more miracles happen for other people,” continuing, “And I’m a lot more expressive these days—especially with my parents. But it takes courage. They’re the closest people to me but my heart was racing.” With a laugh, he added, “And yeah, I make sure to give them plenty of spending money.”
