BTS member Suga is facing calls to leave the group due to a “drunk driving” controversy, but a global alliance of BTS’s fandom, ARMYs, from 58 countries has united to support the group.
127 global ARMY groups from 58 countries simultaneously posted a joint statement on X (formerly Twitter) on September 9th, emphasizing their support for all seven BTS members.
They stated, “The global ARMY alliance does not demand any responsibility from the members beyond what is required by due legal process.”
The alliance expressed dissatisfaction with how a “small group of individuals is spreading their views through the media as if they represent the entire ARMY.” They also pointed out evidence suggesting that fans of other idol groups were involved in leading these efforts by using the ARMY name.
Earlier, Suga was forwarded to the Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office without detention on charges of riding an electric scooter while intoxicated in Seoul’s Yongsan District at 11:15 PM on August 6th. His blood alcohol concentration at the time of the incident was found to be 0.227%, which exceeds the license revocation standard of 0.08%.
