SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan recently became the target of intense online backlash from international BTS fans (known as ARMY) after posting an alcohol warning as part of a beer advertisement. Although the post was intended to promote responsible drinking, some fans perceived it as a subtle jab at BTS’s Suga, who is currently facing an alcohol-related controversy.

Seungkwan shared a beer ad, encouraging fans to enjoy the Olympics with the message, “Is everyone enjoying the Olympics together? Let’s cheer on our athletes until the end!” In the comments, he added, “Warning: Excessive drinking can lead to strokes, memory impairment, or dementia. Drinking during pregnancy increases the risk of birth defects. Moderation in everything.”

While including a warning label is mandatory for all alcohol advertisements, this routine disclaimer unexpectedly sparked anger among the international ARMY, who accused Seungkwan of indirectly criticizing Suga following his recent drunk driving incident. Comments flooded Seungkwan’s post, with remarks like “Apologize to Yoongi” and “Don’t act so high and mighty,” with some even crossing a line by bringing up Seungkwan’s late friend, Moonbin.

Despite efforts by SEVENTEEN fans to combat the negativity with positive messages, the backlash from international ARMY remains strong.

This controversy follows the recent incident involving BTS’s Suga, who was charged with violating the Road Traffic Act after being found intoxicated while riding an electric scooter in Seoul’s Yongsan district on August 6th with a blood alcohol level of 0.227%.
