MBC’s upcoming drama “Motel California” has unveiled new stills featuring its supporting characters!
Based on Shim Yoon Seo’s 2019 novel “Home, Bitter Home,” “Motel California” is a romance drama about a woman named Ji Gang Hui (Lee Se Young), who was born and raised in a rural motel called Motel California. After escaping her hometown, she returns home after 12 years and winds up reconnecting with her first love and childhood friend Cheon Yeon Su (Na In Woo).
The newly released stills showcase characters from both Gang Hui’s interior design company and her hometown.
Hwang Jeong Gu (Woo Mi Hwa), the CEO of the interior design company, serves as a mentor to Gang Hui, who lacks a degree from a prestigious college or powerful connections. She helps Gang Hui showcase her abilities in a society that heavily favors employees from big conglomerates. A photo from the drama captures her elegant yet charismatic demeanor.
Another still features Park Esther (Seo Ye Hwa), another supporter of Gang Hui who refuses to enter a marriage of convenience with her childhood friend Geum Seok Gyeong (Kim Tae Hyung). A striking image of her in a wedding dress raises questions about whether she will eventually surrender to the marriage and how her story will unfold.
Another still introduces Su Ji (Ji Soo Won), Yeon Su’s playful and carefree mother, who continues to search for new love despite multiple failed marriages. Her bright smile hints at her carefree nature, always relying on Yeon Su and Ji Chun Pil (Choi Min Soo) to resolve the chaos she creates.
Mr. Kwon (Lee Kyu Ho), the general manager of Motel California, also adds intrigue to the story. Although his past and identity remain a mystery, he plays a key role in assisting Gang Hui’s father Chun Pil and maintaining the motel.
Lastly, Secretary Oh (Oh Seung Ah) is a designer and secretary in the director’s office. Unlike other characters, she harbors a dislike for Gang Hui, who comes from a completely different background, and creates conflict with her. A still of her deep in thought adds to the mystery surrounding her true intentions.
The production team of the drama commented, “The performances of talented actors like Woo Mi Hwa, Seo Ye Hwa, Ji Soo Won, Lee Kyu Ho, and Oh Seung Ah—whose mere presence brings strength—have added rich depth to the drama. Their unique character portrayals, along with their excellent chemistry with lead actors like Lee Se Young and Na In Woo, are truly impressive. Please look forward to their performances in ‘Motel California,’ which will make it impossible for you to take your eyes off the screen.”
“Motel California” premieres on January 10 at 9:50 p.m. KST and will be available on Viki.
