Season 2 of “Squid Game” will be released on December 26, 2024. The official date was announced by Netflix on August 1, 2024. A preview of this new season was released on February 1, 2024, showing the main character, Seong Gi- hun (player 456), as he vows to find the people behind the game and put an end to this dangerous business.
In the first season of “Squid Game”, only Seong Gi-hun (Player 456) survives the deadly game, with the other participants, including Cho Sang-woo and Kang Sae-byeok, being eliminated at different stages. Lee Jung-jae, who plays Seong Gi-hun, will return in season 2. In a letter to fans of the award-winning K-drama, actor Lee Jung-jae said: “It’s been almost three years since season 1 met with incredible success around the world and many unimaginable events have happened. I am extremely excited to write this letter to announce the date for Season 2.”

“Squid Game,” a K-drama created, written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, is a Netflix original production. This hit series centers on a secret game called “Squid Game”, which brings together 456 participants in serious financial difficulty. The main character, Seong Gi-hun, a divorced man and addicted to gambling, enters the competition as Player number 456 to settle his numerous debts. While playing to win the €34,4 million (45,6 billion won) cash prize, he endures physical and psychological horrors inflicted by game organizers and other competitors willing to do anything to win.
The first season of this dystopian thriller stars Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun, Park Hae-soo as Cho Sang-woo, a childhood friend of Seong Gi-hun and competitor (Player 218), Jung Ho-yeon as Kang Sae-byeok, a North Korean defector (Player 067), and Wi Ha-joon as Hwang Jun-ho, a police officer who slips into the game to find his brother disappeared. The first season also includes appearances from Gong Yoo, who plays a mysterious salesman recruiting the participants, and Lee Byung-hun, who plays Hwang In-ho, the game’s main supervisor.

According to an official press release from Netflix, the synopsis for season 2 of the series is as follows: “Three years after winning ‘Squid Game,’ Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their cruel sport. Using his fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts in the most obvious place: looking for the man in the smart suit playing ddakji on the subway. But when his efforts finally begin to bear fruit, the path to dismantling the organization proves more dangerous than he imagined: to end the game, he must return to it. »
According to Netflix’s press release dated August 1, 2024, the new cast of “Squid Game” season 2 includes Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Park Gyu-young, Yang Dong-geun, Jo Yu -ri, Lee David, Kang Ae-shim, Choi Seung-hun, Lee Jin-wook, Noh Jae-won and Won Ji-an. The roles of these new actors have not yet been revealed by the creators of the series. Hwang Dong-hyuk, who directed the first season, will also direct this new season.
