Known as one of the top K-pop vocal groups of all time, where are the Browned Eyed Girls members now?
Even before MAMAMOO, Spica, Red Velvet and more, Brown Eyed Girls (also known as B.E.G.) is indeed one of the top vocal groups in the music industry. They are also known as one of the groups launched by a small agency that laid the foundation for strengthening the status of female idols amid the influx of boy groups in the 2000s.
In particular, Brown Eyed Girls was launched in 2006 under the independent company Nega Network. To form the group, leader JeA personally picked the other members based on their top skills. Following the release of their debut track, “Come Closer” in the same year, B.E.G then started to attract more attention from K-pop enthusiasts when “How Come” dropped in 2008.
Their commercial success continued not until they dominated the entire K-pop scene with their “National Dance Craze” track, “Abracadabra” in 2019, and “Sixth Sense” in 2011. During their reign, B.E.G became iconic for their sultry and dark concept. They broke the pure and innocent stereotypes at that time.
Unfortunately, they started to drift away from the limelight in 2015. After four years, they made a comeback in 2019. Since then, the group decided to take a break until now.
It’s been 16 years since the group was launched yet their impact is truly timeless. After another four years of hiatus, what’s the current status of members doing now?
Brown Eyed Girls Status, Activities in 2022:
During B.E.G fame, JeA was highly praised as the leader of the quartet who possesses one of the most high-quality vocals in K-pop. She also became a voice trainer for Mnet’s “Produce 101” Season 1.
Due to her impressive singing skills, she became the voice behind numerous drama OSTs. This became her doorway to debut in 2013 as a soloist.
In 2015, the members’ contract with Nega Network expired, leading them to find their new nest in Mystic Entertainment along with other members. Here, she continued to promote as a soloist until she left in 2021.
In 2022, JeA decided to permanently move to Jeju Island, leaving her singing career. Amid enjoying her new lifestyle, she’s actively communicating with fans on SNS and YouTube, Jea World.
Following hiatus in 2015, Narsha married her husband Hwang Tae Kyung in 2016. Since then, she became a full-fledged wife who is occasionally appearing on programs.
In 2018, she left Mystic Entertainment earlier than JeA and decided to pursue her solo career with Steit Entertainment.
In February 2022, she renewed her contract with the agency and continued her individual activities such as hosting.
Meanwhile, the main rapper of the group Miryo following their break in 2019 became a YouTuber and Twitch streamer under APOP, a sub-label of Mystic Story.
While the other members are doing just fine, Gain who is the main dancer, maknae, face of the group and one of the most popular members seemed to have met an unfortunate fate since their hiatus.
In 2021, Gain was reportedly fined for taking propofol (without prescription) due to suffering from depression and severe sleep disturbance.
Since then she vanished from the music scene and SNS not until February this year. On her Instagram, Gain made her first appearance since controversy by congratulating her co-B.E.G members 16th debut anniversary.
