With a strong cast including Song Kang, Lee Jin-wook, Lee Si-young, Park Gyu-young, and more, “Sweet Home” received three nominations from the Baeksang Art Awards. While season 1 focuses on the events inside the building and Hyun-su’s transformation into a monster, season 2 shows the residents venturing outside while the army desperately tries to save humans.
‘Sweet Home’ Season 2 Recap and Ending Explained
In Season 2 of “Sweet Home”, after Cha Hyun-su (played by Song Kang) is kidnapped by newly possessed Pyeon Sang-wook (played by Lee Jin-wook) on his way to the military compound for experiments , the surviving residents of the Green Home apartments go their separate ways. They are taken to a safe place for refugees, but military caution is almost excessive. They do not hesitate to slaughter refugees in the presence of a monster. Ui-myeong, who controls Sang-wook’s body, persuades Hyun-su to help save those being experimented on.
Meanwhile, with the help of Dr. Lim, now captured by the military, Yi-kyung discovers her husband’s dissected body and suddenly goes into labor. It is also revealed that the Korean government is seeking to develop a vaccine to only help the powerful, while refugees are under attack. Ui-myeong and Hyun-su get into a fight, and the latter is easily dominated. In another location, Yi-kyung lies on the ice after escaping the attack and gives birth to a baby who later turns out to have been born a monster. Sergeant Tak and Chief Ji take over after the army and eliminate government officials.
Eun-yu is attacked by Chief Ji’s husband, transformed into a monster; however, she is saved by something she does not recognize. Convinced that it was her brother who saved her, she begins to go out alone in search of him, despite the ban on survivors from going in search of provisions. The two men sent by Chief Ji to find Eun-yu turn into monsters when they come into contact with a strange girl.
This strange girl is none other than Yi-kyung’s daughter. Their troubled relationship leads her to believe that her mother doesn’t understand that monsters are her friends. Yi-kyung’s daughter flees after setting herself on fire aboard a ship. Sergeant Tak discovers that he will soon turn into a monster himself, but Dr. Lim promises to help him on the condition that he brings him something.
Yi-kyung’s daughter is now angry, and during another encounter with Eun-yu, she pushes her into a deep ditch. Hyun-su saves her as she falls. Hyun-su had been a huge help to Yi-kyung and her daughter, serving as a link between them. Yi-kyung faints from the fire as a baby monster tries to save her. Hyun-su manages to save the two. As the army prepares to search for a comrade, Sergeant Tak allows Dr. Lim to accompany them to find what he is looking for.
As Hyun-su, Eun-yu and the group discover an abandoned hospital, they realize that Yi-kyung will not survive. As a final gift to her mother, Yi-kyung’s daughter turns her into a monster, which Hyun-su must then kill. With the help of a girl, the military group finds their comrade, but the girl turns into a monster. Everyone there had been the subject of an experiment. When Eun-yu decides to stay with Hyun-su, she realizes that something has changed in him. The cocoon bursts, and Eun-hyeok reveals himself to be a monster that even other monsters are afraid of. This is how season 2 of Sweet Home ends.
