During the May 26 broadcast of the MBC singing competition, eight new contestants entered the ring to challenge the reigning champion for the throne.

In the final match-up of Round 1, “Wrestling Champion” and “Heracles” went head-to-head with a duet version of Lee Juck’s famous ballad “Lie Lie Lie.”

Both contestants earned high praise from the celebrity panelists, who commented that the battle felt like the final round—and that either contestant was a worthy contender for the throne.

Despite impressing the audience with his vocals, Wrestling Champion ultimately lost the round to his opponent. He then remained on stage to perform a soaring rendition of Kim Hyun Sung’s “Wish,” taking off his mask halfway through the song to reveal his identity.

Wrestling Champion turned out to be none other than Yoo Seung Eon, the main vocalist of EVNNE—a rookie project group made up of seven former contestants from the Mnet survival show “Boys Planet.”

When asked what his goals were for his appearance on “The King of Mask Singer,” Yoo Seung Eon replied, “I think there are more people who don’t know my voice than people who do. So I came here hoping to make myself a little better-known as an idol main vocalist who sings really well.”

Host Kim Sung Joo then asked about his rumored perfectionist tendencies, and Yoo Seung Eon recalled with a laugh, “[There was a time] when everyone was sitting around and resting. But I thought to myself, ‘There’s no way we can end practice here.’ So I asked the older members, ‘Can we practice a little more before leaving?’ And then I locked the door to the practice room.”
