Veteran trot singer Hyun Cheol passed away due to a chronic illness at the age of 82.

On July 16, the music industry reported that Hyun Cheol died on the night of July 15 after a long battle with illness. His health had deteriorated due to nerve damage following cervical disc surgery several years ago, and he continued to struggle with the disease for a long time.

Hyun Cheol was active in releasing new songs until the 2010s, but he halted activities later in the decade due to health reasons. His last appearance was on KBS2’s “Immortal Songs” in 2020, where he appeared as a legendary singer along with Ha Chun Hwa. He was loved and known as one of the Four Trot Emperors along with Seol Woon Do, Tae Jin Ah, and Song Dae Kwan.

The funeral will be held at Asan Medical Center in Seoul. He leaves behind one son and one daughter.
