LG Uplus’s content studio, STUDIO X+U, has officially announced the production of Twelve, a fantasy action blockbuster set to captivate global audiences. The series, inspired by the Korean Zodiac’s 12 animals—rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig— boasts a star-studded cast with Ma Dong Seok, aka Don Lee, and Park Hyung Sik set to headline the project.
Twelve is a modern reimagining of the legendary 12 guardians who have descended to Earth in human form to protect the world from an evil force. The plot follows their fight against demonic forces trying to unseal the powers of darkness.
Ma Dong Seok takes on the role of Taesan, the leader of the 12 guardians, symbolizing the tiger. Meanwhile, Park Hyung Sik will portray the villainous Ogwi, the raven, who emerges after centuries of slumber to wreak havoc on the world. With chaos descending upon modern-day Seoul, the stage is set for a massive battle between the forces of good and evil.
Twelve reimagines the legendary 12 Korean Zodiac Guardians in a contemporary setting, blending Eastern and Western influences. The show promises a rich, expansive world and a story that transcends cultures, featuring intense action sequences and stunning visuals. Audiences around the globe can expect a powerful and relatable narrative, with endless potential for future expansions.
The project is being produced by several industry heavyweights, including STUDIO X+U, known for its genre-bending hits like No Way Out: The Roulette and Night Has Come. They will be joined by Contents G., the company behind Project Wolf Hunting, and Big Punch Pictures, the team behind the The Roundup franchise. Nova Film, which dominated Netflix’s non-English film rankings with Badland Hunters, is also onboard. Directing the series is Kang Dae Gyu, known for his emotional storytelling and skilled direction in films like Pawn.
Twelve is scheduled for release in 2025.
