Choo Young Woo’s father has been revealed as Choo Seung Il, a top model from the 1990s, while his mother is also a former model, Kang Sung Jin.
Xports News reported on January 8th that Choo Seung Il rose to fame as one of the leading models of the 1990s, alongside Cha Seung Won. His mother, Kang Sung Jin, is also a fashion model three years older than Choo Seung Il.
Choo Young Woo, currently starring in JTBC’s weekend drama The Tale of Lady Ok, has inherited his parents’ model-like looks, including his 187 cm (6’1″) height and striking facial features. His younger brother, Cha Jung Woo, is also a rookie actor. Cha Jung Woo drew attention after appearing in a behind-the-scenes clip of The Tale of Lady Ok, standing in as a body double for Choo Young Woo’s dual-role scenes.
Choo Seung Il was one of the few standout male models of the 1990s, known for his towering height and signature long hair. He made his debut in the 1992 S.F.A.A Collection, walking for designers Jang Kwang Hyo and Lim Tae Young. As a top model of his time, he earned numerous accolades at major modeling award ceremonies.
In 1993, he was named Best Model of the Year, recognized alongside celebrities like Choi Min Soo and Choi Jin Sil, and received honors in the photography category. Actor Oh Ji Ho once shared that as a high school student, he was so captivated by Choo Seung Il’s visuals and style that he copied his hairstyle and look.
With his exotic features and mesmerizing gaze, Choo Seung Il became one of the most celebrated models of the era, but he retired relatively early from the modeling scene for unknown reasons.
