“Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale,” starring Pyo Ye-jin and Lee Jun-young, concluded its final episodes 9 and 10 on Friday, June 28 on TVING. The K-drama tells the story of Shin Jae-rim, a poor girl, and Moon Cha-min, heir to a dynasty chaebol eighth generation. Although their personalities are polar opposites, they end up falling in love with each other.
Pyo Ye-jin plays Shin Jae-rim in “Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale”, a woman who dreams of becoming Cinderella and being saved by her Prince Charming to escape her life of poverty. On the other side, Moon Cha-min, played by Lee Jun-young, comes from a rich family and is the CEO of a social club named Cheongdam Heaven. In “Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale,” Moon Cha-min and Shin Jae-rim’s lives intertwine when Shin Jae-rim begins working as a manager at Cheongdam Heaven in hopes of finding her Prince.
In episode 9 of “Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale”, with the help of Shin Jae-rim, Moon Cha-min gives her mother another chance to explain her son’s abandonment during his childhood . After clearing up the misunderstanding between mother and son, Moon Cha-min asks Shin Jae-rim to hug her. As the two get closer and are about to confide their feelings to each other, things get complicated. Moon Cha-min’s fiancée, Ban Dan-a (played by Song Ji-woo), is not happy that he plans to propose to Shin Jae-rim.
Moon Cha-min and Ban Dan-a were engaged out of convenience, each wanting to lead their own lives. However, Ban Dan-a developed feelings for Moon Cha-min. She threatens that if he left her for Jae-rim, she would do anything to ruin the latter’s life. She goes further by asking Moon Cha-min to marry her if he wants Shin Jae-rim to stay safe. Ban Dan-a announces his marriage plans to Moon Cha-min by holding her hands at Cheongdam Heaven, in front of all the employees and Shin Jae-rim. The latter is devastated, believing that Moon Cha-min would finally open up to her.
On the other hand, Baek Do-hong (Kim Hyun-jin) suggested that Shin Jae-rim fly with him to Berlin and start a new career as an artist. Following this, Cheongdam Heaven was temporarily closed, which aroused Shin Jae-rim’s curiosity, while the other employees were excited to take advantage of their paid leave. Shin Jae-rim went to Moon Cha-min’s house to find out what happened with the club and found that he had been attacked. Shin Jae-rim wanted to confess her feelings, but Lee Jun-young insulted her with hurtful words by calling himself a player who manipulated her emotions.
Later, in episode 9 of “Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale”, it was revealed that Ban Dan-a’s father and his gangsters demolished the club because Moon Cha-min refused to marry Ban Dan -has. They beat Moon Cha-min, leaving a scar on her face. Moon Cha-min’s father was unhappy with what happened to the club and Ban Dan-a, as he believed that a marriage of convenience was the best solution and that true love did not exist. Additionally, he removed Moon Cha-min from his position as CEO and cut ties with him. Moon Cha-min’s father said Shin Jae-rim wouldn’t accept him if he wasn’t a chaebol.
In episode 10 of “Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale”, Shin Jae-rim declined the offer made by Baek Do-hong. Leaving her studio, she found herself at Cheongdam Heaven. Upon entering the club, she discovered that everything was destroyed. There, she met Moon Cha-min, who came to collect the ring he had bought for his proposal to Shin Jae-rim.
They were finally able to express their feelings towards each other when Shin Jae-rim confessed that she loved him even though he had nothing. She seemed to find self-love thanks to Moon Cha-min’s heartwarming words. She began to appreciate herself, realizing that this was the real reason behind her desire to find a Prince Charming: to receive love. Moon Cha-min, who had suppressed her true feelings due to her past, finally responded to his statement with a kiss.
In the latest episode of “Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale,” Moon Cha-min visits her father to tell him that love exists and that he wants nothing from him, even if it means losing his social club. Despite being disowned by his father, Moon Cha-min shows his love for him. Soon after, Moon Cha-min’s parents reconcile after years of separation and her father asks her to return to restart Cheongdam Heaven.
However, Moon Cha-min chooses to start a new business in the vibrant Seongsu district without her father’s help. At the same time, Shin Jae-rim, who dreamed of becoming an artist as a child, shares his work with Baek Do-hong. She receives a call from a production house to direct an animated short film based on her script found in Baek Do-hong’s script collection. Although Shin Jae-rim feels lucky to have this opportunity, she acts detached before finally accepting the offer. “Dreaming of a Freaking Fairy Tale” offers a conclusion to Shin Jae-rim and Moon Cha-min’s love story, while showing their personal growth. The possibilities of a second season seem very low, as the K-drama ends on a happy note.
