“Wonderland” will land globally on Netflix.

On July 1, 2024, Netflix announced its content for the month, including the highly anticipated Korean film “Wonderland” among other K-dramas. Viewers can expect the film to release in July 2024, although the exact date has not yet been announced. This news follows a previous deal in October 2020 between investment firm Acemaker and Netflix to distribute the film globally, excluding Korea and China. Analysts speculate that this selective release is likely due to the theatrical release of “Wonderland” in Korea and limited availability of Netflix in China. Additionally, reports suggest that the casting of actress Tang Wei may have influenced this decision.

“Wonderland” marks the return of director Kim Tae Yong nine years after “Late Autumn” in 2011. It tells the story of people using the “Wonderland” service, which allows them to find their loved ones through video calls using artificial intelligence . The film stars Park Bo Gum, Suzy, Gong Yoo, Tang Wei, Jung Yumi and Choi Woo Shik.

Acemaker and Netflix discussed the international release of “Wonderland” during the early stages of filming. It is reported that the two parties have reached an agreement to distribute the film overseas through Netflix for approximately 30% of the production cost.

Currently showing in cinemas across the country and available in Korea on various streaming platforms, such as KT Genie TV, SK Btv, LG U PlusTV, KT Skylife, TVING, Naver Series On, Wavve, Google Play, Watcha, Webhard and Apple TV, “Wonderland” continues to captivate viewers with its gripping plot and star-studded cast.
