Netflix has revealed important information about seasons 2 and 3 of the highly anticipated K-drama “Squid Games”. To meet growing public expectations, the streaming giant has revealed what to expect in the upcoming sequels.
Aired in September 2021 under the direction of Hwang Dong Hyuk and starring Lee Jung Jae, Park Hae Soo, Jung Ho Yeon and Wi Ha Joon, this 9-episode K-drama was quick to attract the attention of viewers by offering a unique vision of survival games. This psychological drama holds Netflix’s record as the most popular series of all time, becoming the biggest series on the platform.
The enthusiasm of viewers around the world for “Squid Game” resulted in more than 1,65 billion hours of viewing, just 28 days after its premiere.
Production on seasons 2 and 3 of “Squid Game” nears completion
It’s after three years of waiting that viewers will finally be able to see season 2 of “Squid Game” on Netflix and according to Osen, the cast and crew recently finished filming seasons 2 and 3. Apparently, to celebrate this achievement, the team took a two-day trip to Gapyeong County, a county in Gyeonggi Province, and it was during the first day, June 11, that was celebrated on the last day of filming. The cast and crew of “Squid Game” celebrated, had fun with leisure activities and hosted a barbecue to commemorate their hard work.
It is worth recalling that Hwang Dong Hyuk worked on the story of the upcoming sequels right after Netflix and the makers of the drama confirmed the renewal and it was once the cast lineup was established that the team began filming in July 2023, a journey of 11 months.
In the midst of production, several media outlets reported that “Squid Game” seasons 2 and 3 would be produced simultaneously, but Netflix put those rumors to rest, saying: ” We are currently busy with Season 2, and it is not being produced at the same time as Season 2. This has not been confirmed yet“. Regardless, a rep confirmed that both seasons were filming at the same time, but they would air separately.
How many episodes does “Squid Game” season 2 have?
While season 1 lasted up to 9 episodes, “Squid Game” season 2 is expected to have 6 episodes, while season 3 is also planned for 6 to 7 episodes.
“Squid Game” season 2 release date
As has been clarified, Netflix will not release the two sequels at the same time; but there could be a minimal gap between the launch dates of season 2 and season 3.
As for the official release of season 2 of “Squid Game”, Netflix has suggested that this second chapter will be released during the second half of 2024.
