Directed by Kim Sung Je, “Bogota: City of the Lost” is a crime thriller that tells the story of Guk Hee (Song Joong Ki), who, in the wake of the IMF crisis, heads to Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, with new hopes. There, he becomes entangled with Soo Young (Lee Hee Joon), a customs broker, and Sergeant Park (Kwon Hae Hyo), a key figure in the Korean community in Bogotá.
Song Joong Ki stars as Guk Hee, a young man determined to rise from nothing. After the crisis, Guk Hee flees to Bogotá with his family and begins working for Sergeant Park, a key figure in the smuggling trade. Driven by a desire to return to Korea, Guk Hee uses his survival instincts to gradually establish himself within the local Korean community.
Newly released stills show Guk Hee arriving in Bogotá full of hope, only to have all his possessions stolen by robbers, leaving him in despair. The images highlight his journey to reach District 6, the city’s highest zone, while grappling with deep inner turmoil. Song Joong Ki’s portrayal captures the character’s complex emotions, building anticipation for his multifaceted performance.
Song Joong Ki said, “It was my first time playing a character with such a long narrative, from their 20s to 30s.” He added, “This character has the greatest emotional changes of any I’ve played, and that was really interesting.”
Director Kim Sung Je stated, “Song Joong Ki was the only choice,” noting, “Not only does he have a great voice, but he also has a face that shows the contrast from boy to young man.” He continued, “I started with the Guk Hee I imagined, but as I worked on the project, it felt like I was watching Song Joong Ki’s version of Guk Hee,” heightening expectations for the character.
“Bogota: City of the Lost” is set hit theaters on December 31. Stay tuned!
