The highly anticipated thriller Dark Nuns has unveiled its first poster and teaser. The film, slated for a January 2025 release, pairs A-list talent Song Hye Kyo and Jeon Yeo Been in a provocative tale of faith tested by demonic forces.
Dark Nuns tells the story of a group of people who undertake a forbidden ritual to save a young boy possessed by a powerful demon. This nail-biting horror movie is a sequel to The Priests, which opened a new chapter in Korean occult cinema in 2015.
The atmospheric first poster captures Song as Sister Yunia, her penetrating gaze cutting through flames, alongside Jeon’s Sister Michaela, whose eyes betray both doubt and curiosity as they face an unseen threat. The poster’s tagline sets an ominous tone: “I am ready to head to the forbidden place.”
Song’s Sister Yunia emerges as an unstoppable force willing to cross any line to save the child, while Jeon’s Sister Michaela initially resists but ultimately joins the forbidden crusade.
The teaser opens with Sister Yunia’s chilling query, “Have you heard of the 12 Spirits?” As Sisters Yunia and Michaela prepare to confront these malevolent entities that have resurfaced in Korea, the tension ratchets up. The footage builds to a crescendo with Yunia’s defiant proclamation: “Evil spirits, leave now!” It hints at Song’s commanding presence and subtle character work, complemented by Jeon’s nuanced portrayal of Sister Michaela’s internal struggles.
The film subverts classic possession tropes by introducing nuns, though forbidden from performing exorcisms, participating in a ritual to save a possessed boy.
Dark Nuns will hit the theaters on January 24th, 2025.
