tvN’s upcoming romance drama “The Midnight Romance in Hagwon” has dropped the first set of stills of So Ju Yeon and Shin Joo Hyup!
Helmed by director Ahn Pan Seok of the hit drama “Something in the Rain,” “The Midnight Romance in Hagwon” is set against the backdrop of Daechi, a neighborhood renowned as the epicenter of private education in Korea. The plot centers around an instructor who tirelessly assists a student named Lee Joon Ho (Wi Ha Joon) in gaining admission to a prestigious university. In a twist of fate, Lee Joon Ho later returns to the academy as a rookie instructor after resigning from a large company because he remains fixated on his first love, his academy teacher Seo Hye Jin (Jung Ryeo Won), even after becoming an adult.
So Ju Yeon will portray Nam Cheong Mi, a new Korean language instructor who gets into Daechi Chase academy at the same time as Lee Joon Ho. Despite having a “weakness” in her resume, she is a determined individual who has steadily built her career as an instructor to compensate for this shortcoming.
In the newly released still, Nam Cheong Mi maintains her smile even moments before taking the instructor exam at Daechi Chase, showcasing her resilience. Emerging victorious in the fierce competition of the new instructors’ audition, Nam Cheong Mi later becomes the first to notice Seo Hye Jin’s feelings toward Lee Joon Ho.
Shin Joo Hyup will star as Choi Seung Gyu, Lee Joon Ho’s cynical yet loyal best friend. A Daechi academy alumnus, Choi Seung Gyu opts for graduate studies over office work. When he learns of Lee Joon Ho’s decision to return to Daechi as an instructor, Choi Seung Gyu bluntly calls him crazy, yet remains by his side to listen to Lee Joon Ho’s worries over drinks.
In an unexpected turn of events, Choi Seung Gyu forms an unexpected bond with Nam Cheong Mi after their encounter.
“The Midnight Romance in Hagwon” will premiere on May 11 at 9:20 p.m. KST. In the meantime, check out teasers for the drama here!
