SM Entertainment has released an update on its ongoing legal efforts to address defamatory, insulting, and harassing content directed at Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon.

On December 2, the agency issued the following statement:

Hello, this is SM Entertainment.

We would like to provide an update on the legal actions regarding the malicious posts and comments related to defamation, insults, and sexual harassment directed at our artist Taeyeon.

To date, through reports from fans and our own monitoring efforts, we have collected thousands of pieces of evidence of malicious posts and comments targeting Taeyeon across platforms such as Naver, Daum (including communities like Women’s Generation, Mixed Martial Arts Community, SoulDresser, Dotax, etc.), Nate Pann, Theqoo, Instiz, MLBPark, X (formerly Twitter), DC Inside (including various galleries such as drama, female celebrity, male celebrity, Billboard, Circle Chart, K-pop, etc.), Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Ilbe, Bobae Dream, and FM Korea. Based on this evidence, we have filed and are continuing to file hundreds of complaints with law enforcement regarding charges such as defamation and insult.

We would like to share that investigations are currently ongoing regarding several identified suspects, and recently, two cases (insult, etc.) have been confirmed with charges added. These cases have resulted in:
1) A suspended prosecution with conditions for completing an educational program at the probation office.
2) A decision of no prosecution due to the death of the suspect.

For cases involving minors, we resolved several instances through written apologies submitted by the suspects under parental supervision. For adult suspects, penalties such as fines or suspended prosecution have been imposed. We are also still actively addressing the remaining cases.

Moving forward, we will make every effort to protect our artists and continue to take strong legal actions without any leniency against malicious rumors, harmful posts/comments, defamation, and insults directed at Taeyeon across online communities, social media, and portal sites.

Thank you.
