SM Entertainment has announced strong legal action against malicious posts regarding their artist BoA.
On April 11, SM Entertainment released the following statement:
Hello, this is SM Entertainment.
We would like to address matters regarding our artist BoA.
As the circulation of false information, malicious personal attacks, defamation, and slander against the artist continue on various social media channels and video-sharing platforms as well as online communities, we are working with law firm Shin & Kim LLC, who is in charge of legal action against the violation of rights of the agency’s artists, as well as external legal advisory organizations to file a large-scale complaint domestically and internationally.
Since our previous notice, we already collected sufficient evidence for numerous posts and are currently investigating and pursuing legal actions against specific cases including “cyber wreckers” (Korean slang term referring to those who maliciously spread false rumors online). We plan to hold accountable those responsible for such actions without leniency or settlement through continued collection of information.
The above actions have reached a level of severity that is difficult for one person to handle, and the artist is going through a very difficult time while facing great pain mentally. We plan to make sure that the relevant perpetrators receive legal punishment without leniency or settlement. Please be aware that every act of posting malicious content even at this moment may be subject to punishment.
Once again, we firmly state that such actions constitute crimes that damage an individual’s honor and dignity, and we sternly warn that these individuals may face severe punishment according to relevant laws. We earnestly request the cessation of indiscriminate attacks against the artist.
Thank you.
