PENOMECO returns with the EP ‘Organic2’, about a year after the release of the EP ‘[ Rorschach ] Part 2’.
‘Organic2’ is an EP album featuring six tracks, including the title tracks ‘AURORA (feat. Crush)’, ‘Asurabalbalta’, and ‘SODA’. The album starts with PENOMECO’s signature intense charisma and transitions into a gentle atmosphere, offering a deep and delicate experience.
Following the 2021 single ‘Organic’, ‘Organic2’ is a series album that not only reflects the ‘Afrobeats’ genre, as with the previous album, but also delves into the fundamental nature of PENOMECO as a person. The album features six upgraded tracks that deeply explore his essence.
ORGANIC
The first track, ‘ORGANIC’, opens the album with a forceful sound and Afrobeats rhythm, perfectly capturing the essence of its title. It features a striking contrast between the heavy bass sound and the sharp tone of the vocals, with an intensity that builds step by step.
Asurabalbalta
‘Asurabalbalta’, well-known as a line from the character ‘Pyeong Gyeong Jang’ in the movie , is the title track of the album. Though difficult to define precisely, ‘Asura’ refers to the malevolent Buddhist deity symbolizing ‘ugliness, chaos, and horror’, while ‘Balbalta’ suggests a sense of purpose, creating a charm for good fortune. The lyrics, including phrases like ‘Evil spirits, back off’, ‘I draw my bow’, and ‘Let’s plant a totem pole’, combined with the chant-like melody, effectively capture the mysterious atmosphere of the title. The track blends the organic essence of the Afrobeats genre with PENOMECO’s unique Korean pop sensibility, offering a fresh musical experience.
SODA
The second title track, ‘SODA’, is a perfect summer song that highlights a refreshing, bubbly vibe. The beat, reminiscent of fizzy soda, is complemented by lyrics like ‘Twinkling’, and ‘Sparkling’, further enhancing the sense of freshness. The occasional appearance of bright brass melody lines adds a colorful touch to the summer atmosphere.
Garangbi
‘Garangbi’ stands out with its more subdued tone compared to the previous tracks, capturing the essence of a rainy summer rather than a bright, sunny one. This track features a captivating hook and enchanting lyrics, where the narrator compares his beloved to a butterfly, expressing a desire to keep her close by drenching their wings so she can’t fly away.
AURORA (feat. Crush)
‘AURORA’, the main title track, enriched by the participation of R&B artist Crush, captures the essence of the night. The repetitive vocal lines over a simple rhythm and melody further highlight the Afrobeats-inspired beats, adding depth and variety to the track.
ICN
The final track, ‘ICN’, carries a calm and chill atmosphere, depicting the moment of meeting a loved one returning from a journey at the airport. In this track, the narrator can be seen as PENOMECO himself, while the loved one symbolizes the listener. The song reflects the artist’s gentle warmth as he welcomes the listener, who has share
