Park Min Young’s next project has been revealed: the upcoming drama The Confidence Man KR (working title).
An entertainment industry insider told JTBC Entertainment News on the 23rd, “Park Min Young will star in the Korean remake of the Japanese original drama ‘The Confidence Man JR.’”
The Confidence Man JP follows three con artists who form a team to swindle money from corrupt corporations and mafia bosses, using every trick in the book. The show was a hit in Japan, even spawning a film and a special project for Fuji TV’s 60th anniversary.
The Korean remake, The Confidence Man KR, will be directed by Nam Ki Hoon of Big Bet and Destined With You, with writer Hong Seung Hyun of Criminal Minds penning the script. The drama’s schedule has yet to be finalized, with production company HIGROUND currently refining the project.
Park Min Young proved her status as a “rom-com queen” earlier this year with the tvN series Marry My Husband. She played Kang Ji Won, a character who takes charge of her destiny in her second life, leading the show to a record 12% viewership rating (Nielsen Korea), marking the highest-rated Monday-Tuesday drama in tvN history.
The show also enjoyed international success, ranking third in both English and non-English global TV shows on Amazon Prime Video for 23 consecutive weeks, charting in the top 10 in 61 countries, and securing the number one spot in several Asian countries, including Thailand and the Philippines.
However, some netizens have expressed skepticism about Park Min Young playing a con artist, given her past controversies. The actress was rumored to have received financial support from her ex-boyfriend, the alleged owner of the cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb, who was accused of embezzlement and stock manipulation.
