Coupang Play’s upcoming series Newtopia is set to premiere on Friday, February 7th. Along with the announcement, the first official stills have been released, teasing an intense mix of apocalyptic action and romance.
Newtopia follows soldier Jae Yoon and his girlfriend Young Joo—a “gomsin” (a Korean term referring to a woman waiting for her boyfriend to return from mandatory military service)—as they traverse a zombie-ridden Seoul to reunite with each other.
The newly released stills showcase a range of emotions and settings, from Jae Yoon (Park Jung Min) and Young Joo (Jisoo) in happier times to the chaos of a zombie apocalypse engulfing the city. One striking still shows Jae Yoon navigating a dire, zombie-infested high-rise in central Seoul, hinting at action-packed sequences to come. Another features Young Joo running through the streets of Gangnam, her shocked expression suggesting a looming zombie attack.
The chemistry between Park Jung Min and Jisoo is evident in the stills. From their past as a sweet couple to their present as a soldier and a gomsin in a life-or-death situation, the images capture their unwavering connection as they think of each other first, no matter the circumstances. Their love story, growing more heartfelt with each scene, raises anticipation: can these two reunite?
Coupang Play’s series Newtopia brings together leading actor Park Jung Min and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, under the direction of Yoon Sung Hyun, known for acclaimed films such as Bleak Night and Time to Hunt. This highly anticipated project promises a fresh take on the apocalypse genre, blending romance and survival.
