Park Ji Young, Shin Hyun Joon, and Kim Hye Eun have heightened viewers’ anticipation for “Iron Family”!
Penned by screenwriter Seo Sook Hyang of “Pasta,” “Don’t Dare to Dream” (also known as “Jealousy Incarnate”), and “Wok of Love,” “Iron Family” is a dark comedy about a family that has run a laundry business for three generations.
Park Ji Young stars as Go Bong Hee, a self-sacrificing mother and the daughter-in-law of the Cheongryeom Laundry family. Shin Hyun Joon takes on the role of Ji Seung Don, the chairman of Ji Seung Group, while Kim Hye Eun plays his wife Baek Ji Yeon.
Bong Hee makes a bold proposal to Seung Don, the richest person in the Cheongryeom neighborhood, for the sake of her visually impaired daughter Lee Da Rim (Geum Sae Rok). Seung Don treats Bong Hee coldly, despite her swallowing her pride, and he feels betrayed by his wife Ji Yeon, who deceived him. Viewers’ attention is focused on the tangled relationships between Bong Hee, Seung Don, and Ji Yeon.
Regarding why she chose to star in “Iron Family,” Park Ji Young revealed, “It started with my connection to writer Seo Sook Hyang. I decided to star in the drama because I trust her work. This is my first time working with her on a weekend drama, and it feels both new and exciting.”
Shin Hyun Joon explained his reason for joining the cast, saying, “I was immediately drawn to the character of Ji Seung Don. I tend to focus on characters when choosing a project, and I was captivated by his charm.”
Kim Hye Eun shared an anecdote about writer Seo Sook Hyang, saying, “During our meeting, the writer told me that only I could play Baek Ji Yeon, which was such an honor. Since Baek Ji Yeon is the character who wears the most glamorous outfits in the drama, I was entrusted with the role of visual appeal.”
On how she prepared for the role of Baek Ji Yeon, Kim Hye Eun shared, “I paid a lot of attention to her hair, makeup, and wardrobe. I also put a lot of thought into how to express her uniquely lovable and playful personality,” further raising expectations for the character.
Park Ji Young talked about her experience working with co-star Kim Young Ok. She commented, “I’ve worked with many actors through various projects, but this is the first time I’ve worked on such a long project as a family with Kim Young Ok, and it has been a warm and comfortable experience. We’ve appeared in the same projects or met in cameo roles before, but this time, I’m so happy to be working together as a family,” expressing her respect for Kim Young Ok.
Kim Hye Eun highlighted her strong similarity to Baek Ji Yeon, saying, “I think Ji Yeon and I have a lot in common, especially our goofy personalities. My close friends often say we look alike because of that slightly clueless side of her.”
Shin Hyun Joon described “Iron Family” as a must-watch, confidently saying, “It’s such a fun drama that people will rush home when it’s time to watch it. I guarantee it.”
Encouraging viewers to watch the drama, Park Ji Young commented, “The premiere is just around the corner. I’m already excited about spending weekends with you for a long time. Please show the fun story lots of attention and love.”
Shin Hyun Joon added, “”I’m thrilled to be meeting viewers again after a long time. The drama will start in 2024 and end in 2025, and if the ratings surpass 24 percent, I’ll personally bring an iron and go meet my look-alike, Zlatan Ibrahimović, to iron his clothes,” making a playful ratings pledge. Kim Hye Eun also encouraged viewers to tune in, saying, “A solid weekend drama packed with laughter is coming your way. Please don’t miss it!”
“Iron Family” is set to premiere on September 28 at 7:55 p.m. KST.
