Netflix’s Squid Game 2 has unveiled one of its most shocking twists through Park Gyu Young‘s character, as the series has dominated global charts since its December 26th release.

While the season follows Gi Hun’s (Lee Jung Jae) return for revenge and his confrontation with the Front Man (Lee Byung Hun), it’s Par Gyu Young’s character No Eul that has viewers talking. The North Korean military defector, who works at an amusement park wearing mascot costumes while searching for her daughter left behind in the North, appears wearing the pink guard uniform instead of the contestants’ signature green tracksuits.

“No Eul is someone who can’t live with the guilt of leaving her child in North Korea, but must continue living with the small hope of finding them,” Park explained about her character. “She participates in the game believing she must peacefully send off those who, like her, have no hope in life.”

No Eul has opened up a new perspective on the games, showing events through the eyes of the Pink Guards rather than just the contestants. Viewers have praised the twist, noting, “Park Gyu Young being a Pink Guard instead of a contestant was a complete surprise,” “It was refreshing to see the Pink Guards’ story,” and “No Eul’s identity was the most shocking reveal.”

Newly released behind-the-scenes stills show No Eul in her private quarters, transitioning from a moment of contemplation to a haunting, vacant stare while donning her uniform.

Meanwhile, Squid Game 2 has claimed the #1 spot on Netflix’s non-English series chart in 93 countries according to FlixPatrol, and Netflix reports it accumulated 68 million views within just four days of release, setting a new record.
