NewJeans’ hit single “Ditto” has officially surpassed 700 million streams on Spotify, solidifying the K-pop group’s status as a global phenomenon. As of Wednesday, Spotify reported that “Ditto,” from the group’s single album OMG, had garnered 700,011,492 streams. This achievement marks “Ditto” as NewJeans’ second track to reach the 700-million milestone, following the title track “OMG” from the same album.
Released as a pre-release track on December 19th, 2022, “Ditto” is celebrated for its cozy, feel-good melody and the group’s warm vocals. The song quickly became a fan favorite, propelling NewJeans onto the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Official Singles Top 100 just six months after its debut. In South Korea, “Ditto” made history by topping Melon’s daily chart for 99 consecutive days and ultimately finished the year at #1 on Melon’s 2023 Year-End Chart.
Paste magazine recognized “Ditto” as one of the Best Songs of the 2020s, praising the track for showcasing NewJeans’ innovative sound and explosive rise to fame. According to the publication, “Ditto” perfectly encapsulates the group’s unique position within the genre they are shaping.
As “Ditto” approaches its second anniversary, it remains a staple in the upper echelons of major music charts. NewJeans’ remarkable ability to maintain consistent popularity with both new releases and older tracks has been a defining feature of their success. This year, the group secured the fifth spot on Spotify’s 2024 year-end chart for most-streamed K-pop artists, making it the highest-ranking K-pop girl group on the list.
To date, NewJeans has achieved an impressive 14 songs with over 100 million streams on Spotify. Among these hits, both “OMG” and “Ditto” have surpassed 700 million streams, while “Super Shy” and “Hype Boy” have exceeded 600 million. “Attention” has surpassed 400 million, and both “New Jeans” and “ETA” have crossed the 300-million mark. Other fan favorites, including “Cookie,” “Hurt,” and “Cool With You,” each have more than 200 million streams, while “ASAP,” “Get Up,” “How Sweet,” and “Supernatural” have all surpassed 100 million. Consequently, the total cumulative streams for all of NewJeans’ tracks on Spotify now exceed 5.5 billion.
NewJeans will perform at the 2024 Music Bank Global Festival in Japan on December 14th, and on December 16th, they will appear on TBS’s CDTV Live! Live! Christmas Special.
In a press conference on November 28th, NewJeans announced that, as of November 29th, they have officially terminated their exclusive contract with ADOR. The group stated that it would continue its activities independently, free from both ADOR and HYBE. In response, ADOR has filed a lawsuit to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract.
