K-pop sensation NewJeans has delighted fans with the release of Part 2 of the music video for their hit single “Supernatural.”  This latest installment of the video completes the story that began in Part 1, offering a deeper dive into the group’s unique sci-fi inspired concept.”Supernatural” is the title track of NewJeans’ Japanese debut single, which was released on June 21, 2024.

The song features a mellow new jack swing sound, blending nostalgic melodies with the group’s signature emotional vocal performances.  For the Part 2 release, the lyrics have been updated to be fully in Korean, giving fans a fresh take on the track.

The music video picks up where the first part left off, following the character of Hyein as she navigates a complex love triangle.  Set in a futuristic, dystopian city, the visuals have a distinct sci-fi aesthetic that perfectly complements the song’s retro-tinged sound.

Hyein’s jealousy over her boyfriend’s relationship with fellow TV star Minji eventually manifests in supernatural bunny-like powers, leading to a mesmerizing dance sequence with the rest of the NewJeans members. This conceptual storytelling is par for the course for NewJeans, who have consistently used their music videos to explore themes of love, relationships, and the human experience.

While the group’s discography is often centered around romance, there’s often an underlying sense of skepticism or unease, hinting at the unreliable nature of love. “Supernatural” seems to continue this trend, leaving fans eager to see how the narrative ultimately unfolds.

Beyond the music video, the “Supernatural” single also marks several other firsts for NewJeans. It’s the group’s official debut in the Japanese market, with the A-side and B-side “Right Now” both incorporating Japanese lyrics alongside the Korean and English.  The release also features high-profile collaborations with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Takashi Murakami, and Hiroshi Fujiwara, underscoring NewJeans’ growing global influence.
