Yook Sung Jae, Bona, and Kim Ji Hoon are set to star in the upcoming fantasy rom-com Monster Palace (literal title).
SBS’s new drama Monster Palace follows Yeori, a shaman who rejects her fate, and Yoon Gap, her first love whose body becomes possessed by the evil spirit Imoogi (a giant snake), as they face off against an eight-foot-tall ghost with a grudge against the royal family. Directed by Yoon Sung Shik, known for Mr. Queen, You Are the Best, and Bridal Mask, and written by Yoon Soo Jung of The King’s Face, the series promises a compelling mix of humor and fantasy.
Yook Sung Jae takes on the role of Yoon Gap, a librarian determined to protect the palace from the chaos caused by the eight-foot-tall ghost. Yoon Gap, Yeori’s first love, is a character of twisted fate, losing his body to Imoogi. Once a noble and righteous scholar, he becomes the subject of unfortunate rumors of “going mad” after being possessed. Through Monster Palace, Yook Sung Jae will display a broad acting spectrum, portraying both the mischievous Imoogi and the loyal scholar.
Bona stars as Yeori, a shaman who rejects her destined path. As the only granddaughter of a famous shaman, Yeori possesses great spiritual power but finds her life turned upside down after entangling with the Imoogi who failed to become a dragon. Following the possession of her first love Yoon Gap by Imoogi, she gets involved in unexpected events within the palace, filled with vengeful ghosts. Bona will showcase a thrilling love-hate romance with Yook Sung Jae’s character.
Kim Ji Hoon plays King Yi Sung, a reformist monarch who dreams of a stronger Joseon and battles the eight-foot-tall ghost. Initially opposed to the entry of shamans into the palace, the king teams up with his trusted aide Yoon Gap and shaman Yeori to uncover the secrets behind the ghost. For the first time in his career, Kim Ji Hoon will portray a king, adding gravitas to the drama with his charismatic presence. His unique bromance with Yook Sung Jae’s character, now possessed by Imoogi, is also highly anticipated.
Meanwhile, Monster Palace is set to air next year.
