Katseye Gets Formed During Global Hunt Using K-pop System in Netflix’s First Pop Star Academy Trailer
Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for its highly anticipated docuseries “Pop Star Academy,” offering viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the formation of the global girl group Katseye. The series, set to premiere on August 21, 2024, chronicles the intense journey of 20 young women from around the world as they compete for six coveted spots in this groundbreaking musical project.

The trailer showcases the collaboration between HYBE, the powerhouse behind K-pop sensation BTS, and Geffen Records, a major U.S. label. This partnership aims to create a new kind of global girl group by applying the renowned K-pop training and development system to a diverse pool of international talent.
Viewers get a glimpse of the rigorous selection process, which began with over 120,000 submissions from aspiring performers worldwide. The 20 finalists, ranging in age from 14 to 21, hail from various countries including the United States, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and Brazil.

The docuseries promises to reveal the challenges and triumphs these young women face as they undergo intensive training in singing, dancing, and performance. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Nadia Hallgren, known for her work on the Emmy-nominated Michelle Obama documentary “Becoming,” the series aims to provide an intimate look at the making of a potential global music sensation.

While the formation of Katseye represents an innovative approach to creating an international pop group, it has also sparked discussions about the globalization of K-pop and its potential impact on the music industry. The series is expected to explore these themes as it follows the journey of the contestants through their training and the final selection of the six members who now form Katseye.

As anticipation builds for both the docuseries and Katseye’s debut, “Pop Star Academy” promises to offer a unique perspective on the evolving landscape of global pop music and the fusion of K-pop methodologies with international talent.
