Netflix has released its Engagement Report for the first half of 2024, showcasing the content that captivated global audiences. This report, published twice a year since December 2022, provides insight into viewership trends over a six-month period, highlighting the total hours watched and view counts of both produced and licensed works.
During the first half of the year, Netflix recorded a staggering 94 billion hours of content viewed.
Among the top 10 most-watched English-language series, four hailed from the UK, including Fool Me Once, Baby Reindeer, The Gentlemen, and One Day. Reflecting Netflix’s philosophy that great stories can originate and be loved anywhere, one-third of the total view count came from non-English content, with standout titles from Spain, France, Italy, and Japan.
Korean content continued its global reign, with three series making it into the top 10 non-English hits: Queen of Tears (29 million views), Parasyte: The Grey (25 million views), and My Demon (18 million views). Additionally, Doctor Slump (14 million views) emerged as one of the most-loved romance titles among non-English series.
Interestingly, the report also highlights that less than 15% of Korean content on Netflix is directly owned by the platform, mirroring figures from the previous year. This showcases Netflix’s flexible approach to working with local partners while helping to expand the global reach of Korean productions.
The report also breaks down popular genres, showing that action, thrillers, and dramas like Damsel, Lift, Griselda, and The 3 Body Problem dominated the charts, while romantic comedies like Mother of the Bride and Queen of Tears also made waves. Reality shows, including the new season of Love Is Blind, continued to perform well, alongside family animations like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and documentaries such as American Nightmare and The Greatest Night in Pop.
With such a diverse range of content captivating audiences worldwide, Netflix continues to solidify its role as a global entertainment leader.
