While the globally anticipated ‘Squid Game’ season 2 has been confirmed, it is expected that the third season of this hit series will be the last. On this subject, director Hwang Dong-hyuk, to whom we owe “Squid Game”, shared his sincere thoughts on the presentation of seasons 2 and 3 in a letter of which here is the full content:
« The real game begins.
It’s been almost three years since Season 1 sparked immense interest and incredible events, and I’m so thrilled and excited to be able to write to you about the release schedule for Season 2 and news regarding the production of Season 3 On the first day of filming Season 2, I remember feeling a little surreal thinking, “Wow, I’m back in the world of Squid Game and I’m filming it again.” I’m curious to know how you feel returning to the world of Squid Game three years later.
Seong Gi-hun, who hinted at his revenge at the end of season 1, returns and participates in the game again but will he achieve revenge as he promised? The Front Man who faces him also seems formidable and the fierce battle they will engage in will continue until the grand finale, which will take place during season 3, next year.
I’m really excited to be able to bring the ideas that came up while planning Squid Game’s new journey through the story that will continue through Season 3 to fruition and finally be able to wrap it up. I will do my best during the remaining work to meet you in spectacular form.
I invite you to wait with enthusiasm. I am always grateful to you. See you soon, everyone.
In addition to the announcement of the release date of the new season, we were also able to discover the first photo of Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), which only increases the impatience of viewers. Unlike the scene where he boarded a plane to the United States at the end of season 1, Gi-hun now appears with shorter black hair, wearing a green tracksuit with the number 456, this which suggests that he will participate in the game again. The question that intrigues and amplifies the excitement is why and how he returns to the game, and what new stories will unfold in “Squid Game”.
It was not only the novel concept and captivating plot that amazed the world, but also the return of stars like Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-joon, Gong Yoo, and new actors like Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-wook, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-shim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun (TOP), Noh Jae -won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an, which makes for an even more powerful ensemble.
Viewers around the world will be able to exclusively watch “Squid Game” season 2 on Netflix starting December 26, 2024; while season 3 will be broadcast in 2025.
