Netflix has officially confirmed the production of Mantis, an upcoming action film that follows the story of Mantis, an elite assassin who returns to a chaotic, collapsed-order hired killer industry after a hiatus. Upon reentering this anarchic world, Mantis encounters Jae Yi, his fellow trainee and rival, and Dok Go, a retired legendary killer, and realizes they are all vying for the top spot among the killers.

Mantis is a spin-off set in the same universe as the 2023 Netflix film Kill Boksoon, which premiered at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival. While Kill Boksoon focuses on Gil Boksoon’s struggle to balance life as a single mother and a killer, Mantis promises to deliver intense action with Mantis, Jae Yi, and Dok Go, each racing toward their own goals.

Byun Sung Hyun, who skillfully directed and portrayed the menacing contract killer industry in Kill Boksoon, co-wrote the script with director Lee Tae Sung. Lee, known for his work as an assistant director on projects like Kill Boksoon and The King, will make his feature directorial debut with this film.

Yim Si Wan stars as Han Ul, also known as Mantis, an ace assassin employed by MK Ent. Mentioned in Kill Boksoon by Cha Min Kyu as having “gone on vacation,” Mantis returns to the industry seeking new opportunities amidst the chaos. Yim Si Wan, celebrated for his performance in The Merciless, is set to bring Mantis to life with intensity and depth.

Park Gyu Young will play Jae Yi, a highly skilled killer who was expelled by MK Ent. Jae Yi, an old friend of Mantis, has complicated feelings towards him due to his exceptional abilities. Park Gyu Young is expected to showcase her versatility by portraying Jae Yi’s emotional complexity and performing in high-octane action scenes.

Joining the cast is Jo Woo Jin as Dok Go, the retired legendary killer and founding member of MK Ent., who once mentored Mantis. Although Dok Go has retired from active killing, he took on the role of CEO at MK Ent. after Cha Min Kyu’s death and aims to bring Mantis back into the fold. The anticipation for this stellar ensemble cast in the intriguing Mantis universe is high.

Mantis is produced by SEE AT Film Co., LTD, the studio behind notable films like Kill Boksoon, Love and Leashes, and Kingmaker.
