Yesterday, NCT DREAM’s Renjun publicly revealed a Sasaeng fan’s phone number on the paid fan app Bubble. However, it was later clarified that this was due to a misunderstanding by Renjun.
Renjun received a call from a woman, who asked, “Is this OO’s phone number?” and “Has the number changed?” Mistaking her for a Sasaeng fan, Renjun responded, “I will report this number,” and posted her phone number on the paid fan app ‘Bubble.’ As a result, she received numerous hate messages and phone harassment from individuals presumed to be Renjun’s fans.
The woman explained, “I want to clarify that I am not a Sasaeng fan of NCT and that I have no interest in any idols or celebrities. I was simply trying to coordinate with friends to share some merchandise. When we found someone to share with, I contacted one of my friends first. Since she was asleep, I asked another friend to wake her up. When she still didn’t wake up, I called her at the time their class was supposed to end.”
She continued, “I usually save my friends’ names in my contacts by combining their last and first names. Without thinking, I searched my contacts for my friend’s name and called the number saved under that name, assuming it was her number. I was surprised when Renjun said he would report my number, but I just thought ‘Maybe they changed their number?’ and looked through my contacts again. That’s when I realized I had saved my friend’s number under just their first name.”
The woman added, “After receiving hate messages, I searched ‘Sasaeng’ on X out of curiosity and saw that Renjun had posted my phone number on Bubble, accusing me of being a Sasaeng fan. I immediately went to change my phone number, and the staff at the phone store suggested I should go to the police. At the police station, the investigators said they would contact SM Entertainment. They tried calling SM, but there was no answer. The investigator asked if I had called Renjun repeatedly, and I explained that it was just one mistaken call. I then handed over my call history to the investigator.”
Eventually, the woman managed to contact Renjun’s manager. According to the investigator, the manager apologized on Renjun’s behalf but also questioned, “How do we know she isn’t a Sasaeng fan?”
The woman stated, “While it was my mistake to call the wrong number, is it right to publicly disclose an ordinary person’s number without confirming the facts? After a few hours, the investigator informed me that SM’s legal team was apologizing, but I have not yet received any direct apology. I had to endure verbal abuse from strangers and change my phone number just because of a mistaken call. I demand a proper explanation and apology from SM.”
It has been reported that the woman’s phone number has since been removed from Bubble.
