nazca (나스카) was a girl group under Starmax Media that consisted of Minkyung, Junghee, Jiyoon, Rei, and Ollie, as well as one cyber-singer, Nazca. They were the first K-Pop girl group to have a cyber member. They debuted on March 1, 2001 with the studio album Nazca and disbanded sometime in 2005.
Whats the meaning behind the group name?
Jeonghee: “Nazca means ancient civilization. It is an ancient civilization that few people know about, compared to other civilizations, and little is known about it. It means to realize true communication between online and offline, that is, the real world and the cyber world, by inheriting the spirit of the Nazca civilization, which remains a mysterious existence. So, when we are active offline, we work as a 5-member group, but offline we work as a 6-member group with a cyber character called ‘Nazca’. And all the members have their own Nazca characters. Rei’s whale pattern is the concept of innocence and hope that fits her personal image, Jiyoon’s spider pattern is expressionless, indifferent, and unsentimental. Lastly, I, Junghee, have a condor (phoenix) character, gentleness, and a concept that fits each member’s image as a free person.”
