Na In Woo has been released from his military service obligations, marking a significant turn in his rising career trajectory.
An entertainment industry insider revealed to Sports Chosun on Tuesday, “Na In Woo recently received a military exemption after waiting for his social service duty assignment.” The actor had initially been classified as Grade-4 in supplementary service but became eligible for exemption after three years passed without receiving a deployment notice.
Under Korean military law, individuals classified for supplementary service who remain unassigned for three years automatically receive exemption status. Since 2019, over 10,000 potential servicemen have received such exemptions, with an additional 10,000 individuals, including several entertainment figures, this year.
Na In Woo’s career has been on an impressive upward trajectory, despite the looming military service requirements. After his breakthrough leading role in River Where the Moon Rises, he continued to captivate audiences in hit series like Jinxed at First and Marry My Husband. In the last few years, the actor maintained strict compliance with military regulations, even securing necessary permissions from the Military Manpower Administration for his reward vacation following the success of Marry My Husband.
Speculation had circulated that his upcoming project, Motel California, might be his final work before military service. However, with the exemption now in place, Na’s career faces no interruptions.
The actor is currently filming Motel California, a rom-com where he stars opposite Lee Se Young. The story follows the girl who returns to her rural hometown after a 12-year absence, leading to an unexpected reunion with her first love. The series premieres Friday, January 10th, 2025, at 9:50 PM KST on MBC.
