MBC’s upcoming drama “Motel California” has unveiled a glimpse of Na In Woo and Lee Se Young’s heartbreaking farewell!

Based on Shim Yoon Seo’s 2019 novel “Home, Bitter Home,” “Motel California” is a romance drama about a woman named Ji Kang Hee (Lee Se Young), who was born and raised in a rural motel called Motel California. After escaping her hometown, she returns home after 12 years and winds up reconnecting with her first love and childhood friend Cheon Yeon Soo (Na In Woo).

In newly released stills from the upcoming drama, the young Ji Kang Hee leaves home on the first night of the new year. In Korea, teenagers legally become adults on New Year’s Day of the year they turn 19 (by international reckoning)—and so Kang Hee running away from home on New Year’s Day means that she is choosing to leave the moment she is no longer a minor.

Even before the sun has risen, Kang Hee arrives at the bus station with a large suitcase filled with her belongings. The size of her suitcase suggests she is heading somewhere far away, ready to make a fresh start in a far-off place.

As the snow falls around them, Kang Hee is unable to tear her eyes away from Yeon Soo, who sits forlornly by her side as she waits for the bus. Meanwhile, in contrast to Kang Hee, who keeps sneaking glances at Yeon Soo with an apologetic expression, the devastated Yeon Soo bitterly refuses to look Kang Hee’s way.

“Motel California” premieres on January 10 at 9:50 p.m. KST and will be available to watch on Viki.
