Sexual assault allegations involving broadcaster Choi Dong Seok and Park Ji Yoon have been reported to Kookmin Sinmungo, an Internet public communication channel where all civil complaints, public proposals, and policy discussions can be submitted to the government.
According to a report by Sports Seoul on October 18th, a netizen identified as “A” filed a complaint on the Kookmin Sinmungo platform that afternoon under the title, “I strongly urge the police to thoroughly investigate the sexual assault case involving Choi Dong Seok and Park Ji Yoon, and to ensure they are severely punished if criminal charges are confirmed.”
In the complaint, A stated, “State intervention in marital sexual matters should usually be avoided to preserve the family since KBS announcer Choi Dong Seok and Park Ji Yoon are already going through divorce mediation. However, it seems their situation is no longer within the scope of a typical family.”
The complainant further explained, “Given that the reality of ‘sexual assault’ has been exposed through Dispatch’s report, it is necessary to clearly determine whether Choi Dong Seok fundamentally violated Park Ji Yoon’s right to sexual autonomy.”
The person then added, “Therefore, I strongly urge the police to thoroughly investigate the sexual assault case between the two and to make sure the responsible party is severely punished if any criminal charges are confirmed.”
The complaint has been assigned to the Jeju Provincial Police Agency. The processing period for the complaint is between 7 and 14 days from the date of receipt by the final handling agency.
Meanwhile, The pair were colleagues as KBS announcers, got married in 2009 and have one son and one daughter. However, they divorced in October last year after 14 years of marriage.
While the divorce proceedings are ongoing, conflicts have arisen regarding custody issues. Recently, it was revealed that both parties have filed lawsuits accusing each other of infidelity, further shocking the public.
Additionally, in recently disclosed KakaoTalk messages, Park Ji Yoon is seen asking Choi Dong Seok, “Is it discipline or parenting when you say in front of our child, ‘Your mom flirted with another man’?” to which Choi responded, “It’s a fact,” leading to an argument.
At the time, Park Ji Yoon responded, “That’s violence. Emotional abuse. Should I tell our child everything? That his father tried to rape his mother and tried to sexually assault her?” Choi replied, “That can happen between a husband and wife.” To which Park Ji Yoon retorted, “Sexual assault can still be established even between spouses.”
