BLACKPINK’s Lisa has once again created a sensation with her solo hit ‘Rockstar,’ and now, the music video’s shooting location in Bangkok’s Chinatown, Yaowarat, is set to become a new walking tour destination.
According to the Bangkok Post and Thai PBS, the Thailand Tourism Authority is developing a walking tour for this area, with Bangkok city officials planning to replace sidewalk tiles and decorate the streets with a Chinese theme.
Following the release of the “Rockstar” music video on June 28th, Thai fans and foreign tourists have flocked to the area. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, head of the ruling party and vice chair of the National Soft Power Strategy Committee, praised Lisa’s music video as an excellent model of soft power, stating that it will also help promote street food and other local attractions.
In response, the government has inspected hotels and restaurants in the area and cracked down on illegal parking and price gouging by rickshaw drivers and taxis. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt visited Yaowarat on the night of the 29th to assess safety and prepare for the influx of visitors.
To ensure pedestrian safety, the governor has ordered the installation of barriers to separate sidewalks from roadways and increased garbage collection. He also expressed gratitude to Lisa for choosing Yaowarat as the filming location, transforming it into a global landmark. Plans are in place to create pedestrian-only zones, enforce car bans, and add more public restrooms.
