Lim Ji Yeon joined Cosmopolitan Korea magazine for a stunning photo shoot!
Following the photo shoot, Lim Ji Yeon sat down for an interview to talk about her acting career and her upcoming film “Revolver.”
Lim Ji Yeon, who has earned praise for her on-screen chemistry with stars like Song Hye Kyo and Kim Tae Hee, is now acting alongside veteran actress Jeon Do Yeon in the film “Revolver.”
“Thanks to the acclaim for ‘female chemistry,’ I’ve had many opportunities to work on those kinds of projects,” said Lim Ji Yeon. “Previously, I often played villains or characters in competitive relationships, but this time, you’ll see a different kind of chemistry between the two women. My character, Jung Yoon Sun, admires and wishes to emulate Ha Soo Young [Jeon Do Yeon’s character]. It’s almost accurate to say she’s infatuated with Soo Young.”
On working with Jeon Do Yeon, Lim Ji Yeon remarked, “It was such an honor. I learned so much just by watching her on the monitor. Although she didn’t say much, there were moments when I felt she saw me not as Lim Ji Yeon but entirely as Yoon Sun. Seeing her focus deeply on me made me think, ‘As expected, she’s incredible.’ This was my first film in a long time, and thanks to Do Yeon, I feel like I was gifted many unforgettable moments. I’m sure [this experience] will remain in my memory for a long time.”
Lim Ji Yeon, who was once nicknamed “The Jeon Do Yeon of the Korea National University of Arts,” has always admired Jeon Do Yeon, whom she named as an actor she respected early on in her career. Sharing her excitement about working with her idol, Lim Ji Yeon said, “I’d always wanted to meet her! When I found out I’d be working with Jeon Do Yeon on this film, I was so excited. Initially, it was hard to approach her because I was so nervous.”
“However, she treated me warmly during filming, which helped me immerse myself in my role as Yoon Sun,” she continued. “If I get the chance, I’d love to work with her again.”
When asked to define the relationship between her character and Jeon Do Yeon’s, Lim Ji Yeon said, “It’s hard to define clearly. Soo Young and Yoon Sun each have their own goals. On the surface, Yoon Sun is Soo Young’s ally. But as Soo Young pursues her objectives, their paths diverge, causing Yoon Sun to waver and change because of Soo Young. These are emotions I’ve never felt before, so I thought a lot about [how to portray them] while acting. I think this dynamic best showcases the essence of both characters.”
When asked which of Yoon Sun’s lines stood out the most to her, Lim Ji Yeon replied, “‘I’m on your side, just this much.’ Because I think it’s Yoon Sun making a pivotal almost-confession to Soo Young.”
Lim Ji Yeon approaches each role with a unique method, always giving her best. She remarked, “The depth of a character depends on how much the actor immerses themselves and how much passion they invest. I know that my level of focus and passion will influence how the character resonates with viewers and how memorable they become. I plan to continue acting this way in the future, as it allows me to be satisfied with my work. No matter the project or character, I’ll strive to deepen [the character’s] unique color and essence.”
She went on, “To be a good actor, you need to be a good person, and a positive attitude is essential for good acting. Looking back, I worked hard when I was younger, but I don’t think I was a good actor then. I’ve grown by facing challenges on set and observing senior actors, which led to self-reflection and gradual improvement. Right now, I’m filming a historical drama, and I’m working with a lot of junior actors. Watching the junior actors figure things out and overcome their worries, I’m also learning a lot from their experiences. The saying ‘an actor is always learning’ is true, and I’ve come to appreciate that even more.”
Lim Ji Yeon’s full interview and pictorial will be available in the August issue of Cosmopolitan Korea magazine.
