Lee Sang Yi has shared his thoughts on his upcoming drama “No Gain No Love”!
Penned by writer Kim Hye Young of “Her Private Life,” “No Gain No Love” is a rom-com drama that tells the story of Son Hae Young (Shin Min Ah), a woman who fakes her marriage because she doesn’t want to take any loss and Kim Ji Wook (Kim Young Dae), a man who becomes her fake husband because he doesn’t want to cause any harm.
Lee Sang Yi plays Bok Gyu Hyun, a wealthy and single third-generation CEO who doesn’t believe in romance. As the owner of Honeybee Education, where Hae Young works, Gyu Hyun maintains a clean personal life, unlike his womanizing father. Although he has avoided any potential scandals, he secretly comments on the web novels of Nam Ja Yeon (Han Ji Hyun). This hidden involvement leads to a fateful connection with her, becoming a key element of the story.
Discussing “No Gain No Love,” Lee Sang Yi said, “In a time marked by harshness and calculation, the story of people meeting and growing through each other really resonated with me.” He also expressed his excitement about the role, adding, “I found the story of Gyu Hyun, who starts to believe in love despite not believing in it before, particularly compelling.”
Lee Sang Yi explained, “Gyu Hyun, who has lived a life disconnected from romance, grew up believing that true love doesn’t exist. Influenced by a mother hurt by his father, he only interacts with his secretary Yeo Ha Jun (Lee Yoo Jin) in a way similar to ‘Tom and Jerry.’” He added, “While Gyu Hyun is charismatic at work, he becomes endearing and foolish around his secretary and when confronted with love. I find these traits of the character very entertaining.”
The actor also said he focused on pacing and wardrobe while acting, demonstrating his dedication to the role. He explained, “Most of the suits I wore were custom-made. I wanted the CEO’s clean and sophisticated look to stand out.”
Highlighting key aspects of his character—secretary Yeo Ha Jun, online troll, and love—Lee Sang Yi said, “Without secretary Yeo, there would be no Bok Gyu Hyun. The two characters are a perfect match.” He also noted, “He meets Ja Yeon due to online trolling, and through this experience, the character transforms, begins to believe in love, and falls in love.”
Reuniting with Shin Min Ah after about three years, Lee Sang Yi said, “It was a lot of fun working together again. Last time, we were in a one-sided love scenario, but now we’re meeting as a boss and employee, which is a new experience.” He added, “I’m confident this drama is worth your time and you won’t regret watching it. I hope you’ll show it a lot of love.”
“No Gain No Love” is set to premiere on August 26 at 8:50 p.m. KST.
