Lee Min Ho revealed details about a car accident that nearly ended his career even before it began, during his appearance on the Christmas episode of You Quiz on the Block.

“After finishing the EBS drama ‘Secret Campus,’ I got into an accident,” Lee shared. “People died, and it even made headlines. There was a perpetrator, and all the occupants in the offending vehicle died. I spent nearly a year confined to a hospital bed.”

Host Yoo Jae Suk noted that the accident occurred while Lee was traveling with fellow actor Jung Il Woo when a drunk driver crossed the centerline. Lee elaborated, “Il Woo was also seriously injured. We were 20 years old then. At an age when you’re finally an adult with dreams and ambitions, everything came to an unexpected halt. All I could do was think. I hopped between denial, anger, depression, and acceptance.”

During his hospitalization, Jung Il Woo recovered earlier and found success in High Kick!. Addressing his feelings about his friend’s success during his recovery, Lee confessed, “I hated myself that I felt those emotions. I couldn’t wholeheartedly applaud and support him, and I just felt impatient. I wondered if my urgent desire to be recognized and known in society was preventing me from wholly celebrating my friend’s success.”

Lee eventually rose to stardom through Boys Over Flowers. Recalling the audition process, he shared, “The competition ratio was 300 to 1, and I absolutely had to get it. I was desperate.” He even attended the audition sporting his character Gu Jun Pyo’s distinctive hairstyle. “I didn’t want to do it. Living every day with that hair wasn’t easy. Looking back now, it worked out because the show was successful. I wonder what would have happened if it hadn’t worked out.”
