Lee Min Ho is ready to shoot for the stars in his first Korean drama series in five years.

At the production press conference for tvN’s upcoming weekend drama When the Stars Gossip held at The Saint in Sindorim, Seoul, on Wednesday, the actor reflected on his long-awaited return to the small screen. “Since it’s been a while since I’ve greeted viewers, I’ve taken on a character that’s completely different from what I’ve shown before,” Lee shared.

When the Stars Gossip follows the story of Eve (Gong Hyo Jin), the captain at a zero-gravity space station, and an unexpected visitor with a secret mission, Gong Ryong (Lee Min Ho). Gong Ryong is set to marry into Korea’s wealthiest conglomerate, MZ Group, as the future son-in-law to their only daughter, MZ Electronics CEO Choi Go Eun. He pays an astronomical sum to visit the space station as a tourist before his wedding.

The actor candidly discussed his career choices: “I feel like I should have worked with tvN earlier. Except for ‘Pachinko,’ this is my first drama since ‘The King.’ As an actor in his 30s, I’ve been contemplating how to be an actor who can offer something to the audience rather than just being consumed. To resolve this concern, I needed some fresh energy.” He added, “It seems I unintentionally keep choosing projects that take long to produce and come with challenges and hardships. And I think I kind of enjoy that.”

Lee further expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “I found this project refreshing, and when I first read the script, I thought, while today’s content tends to be stimulating and dopamine-driven, this one is different. It’s a wholesome story about warm people discussing what life is. I hope these meanings reach our viewers.”

When the Stars Gossip is set to premiere on tvN at 9:20 PM KST on January 4th, 2024.
