The late actor Song Jae Rim’s final project is set to hit theaters soon. Crypto Man is scheduled to premiere on January 15th, 2025, with the release of its teaser poster building anticipation.
Crypto Man draws inspiration from the real-life cryptocurrency crash that sent shockwaves through global financial markets, resulting in an estimated 50 trillion won (approximately $34.8 billion) in losses. The film delves into the story of a young entrepreneur who makes irreversible decisions and sheds light on the darker side of startup investments. It also portrays the struggles of a generation caught in the loop of day trading and speculative crypto gambling.
Given the subject’s sensitive nature, which involves countless victims and an ongoing legal investigation, the filmmakers conducted extensive research. Collaborating closely with legal experts, they ensured both accuracy and ethical responsibility in their storytelling.
Song Jae Rim takes on a central role as Yang Do Hyun, a cryptocurrency developer whose name is MOMMY. His character is a self-proclaimed business prodigy whose choices lead to devastating consequences.
Director Hyun Hae Ri of Cannes acclaimed Nine Times Fired helms the project. With a background in crafting hard-hitting investigative stories, Hyun aims to present Crypto Man with stark realism while adding elements of dark comedy.
The film also has a stellar ensemble cast, including Ahn Woo Yeon, celebrated for his roles in Don’t Dare to Dream, Strong Girl Bong Soon, and Age of Youth 2; Min Sung Wook, known for Three Bold Siblings and Big Bet; So Hee Jung, who starred in Miraculous Brothers and Kairos; and Cha Jung Won, acclaimed for her work in Horror Stories, Lawless Lawyer, and She Was Pretty.
