Netflix has a nice surprise in store for fans with several Korean releases planned for August 2024. From K-dramas and films to reality TV shows, the platform will offer many titles for viewers to enjoy. Upcoming projects include “Lovely Runner,” “Love Next Door,” and “The Influencer.”
While “Lovely Runner” and “Love Next Door” are romantic comedies, “The Influencer” is a reality series. Netflix will also release an action-comedy film, “Mission Cross,” as well as a variety show called “A-List to Playlist.”
1- Lovely Runner
“Lovely Runner” is a 2024 K-drama originally broadcast on tvN and available for streaming on Rakuten Viki. Soon, the series gained immense popularity and now, Netflix has decided to put it on its platform. All 16 episodes will be released on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Additionally, the K-drama is based on the webtoon “The Best of Tomorrow” by Kim Bbang.
The plot revolves around Im Sol (Kim Hye-Yoon), a big fan of Ryu Sun-Jae (Byeon Woo-Seok), the lead singer of the fictional K-pop group Eclipse. One day, Sun-Jae’s sudden death leaves her devastated. She finds herself magically transported 10 years back. She is then a high school student and Sun-Jae is her neighbor. Im Sol becomes his friend and decides to save him from his tragic future by changing his past.
2- Love Next Door
“Love Next Door” is a new K-drama that will air on tvN and be available for streaming on Netflix. Starring Jung Hae-In and Jung So-Min as the lead, this series will debut on August 12, 2024. It tells the story of Choi Seung-Hyo and Bae Seok-Ryu. Seung-Hyo is a talented and remarkable young architect who runs a workshop called In. On the other hand, Seok-Ryu is a hyperactive but passionate woman, working hard as a project manager in a large company. However, for some reason, she quits her job. One day, they meet and remember their past.
They spent their childhood together as their mothers were best friends. They share many memories, but what happens when they meet again as adults? Renowned director Yoo Je-Won, known for his work in “Crash Course in Romance,” “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha,” and “The King: Eternal Monarch,” helmed this project.
3- The Influencer
“The Influencer” is a new Korean reality show, which will air from August 6, 2024. The concept revolves around several popular South Korean influencers who compete against each other to prove who is the best. On Netflix, the synopsis reads: “YouTube, TikTok, Instagram – 77 elite influencers showcase their talents to strategically attract the most attention in this high-risk social survival show. » Influential participants include RISABAE, PaniBottle, Shim Euddeum, Jang Keun-Suk, and Sia_jiwoo & KEJIMIN. This social survival reality series is co-directed by Lee Jae-Seok and Son Soo-Jeong.
4- A-List to Playlist
“A-List to Playlist” is one of Netflix’s Korean releases in August 2024. It is Jo Jung-Suk’s variety show where he will debut as a singer. With 20 years of experience as an actor, he will now show his journey to becoming a music artist. Although this is billed as his debut, Jung-Suk’s fans have heard his voice in the past. He sang several songs in his famous K-drama, “Hospital Playlist”. The reality show will air on the platform on August 30, 2024. Additionally, the actor will also introduce some of his friends who are helping him in his new adventure.
5- Mission Cross
“Mission Cross” is an upcoming South Korean film that will be released on August 9, 2024. Starring Hwang Jung-Min and Yeom Jung-Ah, it is an action comedy. Broadcast on Netflix, the synopsis is as follows: In the ultimate test of marriage, an agent turned housewife finds himself embarked on a perilous mission with his detective wife, who knows nothing about his past. Director Lee Myung-Hoon helmed this project.
