MBN reported today that renowned actress Kim Soo Mi passed away earlier this morning. Born in 1949, she had temporarily paused her acting career due to health reasons following hospitalizations in May and July of this year.
In September, online discussions arose about her appearance on a home shopping program. A netizen expressed concern about her health, noting that she seemed unwell with swollen features, trembling hands, slow speech, and instability.
Her son, Jung Myung Ho, clarified that she had not ceased her broadcast activities. While hospitalized for two days in July, she continued filming afterward. The home shopping channel explained that the broadcast was pre-recorded and that her appearance was attributed to the demanding schedule.
Kim Soo Mi had been actively involved in the musical Dear Mother until her hospitalization. Her continued presence in programs like tvN Story’s The Village President’s People and KBS 2TV’s Boss in the Mirror makes her passing even more poignant.
